Tour of Britain Stage One
It was a great start for Team IG Sigma Sport in today’s first stage of the Tour of Britain with Irishman Peter Hawkins coming 5th place in what turned out to be a hectic final 2km into the finish.
There were several crashes which saw the peloton split into groups but it was Mark Cavendish who came down heavily in the final stages which left it open for Team Sky’s Luke Rowe to claim the stage and the IG Markets Gold Jersey on day one.
The roads were heaving with support along the 203km route from Ipswich to Norwich Showground. ”Today was was pretty amazing, SO many crowds out, amazing support” said Dan Craven after the stage. Dan unfortunately lost his front tooth during the race, not from a crash however but eating!
Pete Hawkins and Dan Lloyd go into tomorrow’s stage 10 seconds off GC and within striking distance of the jersey. Stage two starts in Nottingham at 10am finishing in Knowsley Safari Park after 180km
A fantastic set of images from our resident photographer Paul Hayes-Watakins is now in our gallery.
