Tour of Britain – Stage Four
The Tour of Britain got its usual dose of wind and rain throughout todays 156km stage from Carlisle to Blackpool which saw roads flooded on many parts of the course. It was a duplicate of yesterday’s stage where a break went up the road after 1km with most of the UK teams represented. Dan Craven was joined by Niklas Gustavsson (UK Youth), Kristian House (Rapha Condor), Ronan McLaughlin (AnPost), David Le Lay (Saur Sojasun) and Matt Cronshaw (Node4).
The break worked well over the three categorised climbs to establish a lead of over 6 minutes but it was Orica Greenedge who were leading the bunch. As the blue skies finally appeared within the last 35km into Blackpool, Team Sky put the pedal down as the crosswinds battered the peloton and forced the splits. As they closed down on a now four man break the AnPost rider went for a final dig with Dan Craven chasing hard.
The two guys made a brilliant last ditch effort only to be caught within the last 2km but Namibian Dan managed to finish up with that first group. World Champion, Mark Cavendish went on to win his 2nd stage of the race and move into the IG Markets Gold Jersey going into stage five.
