Tour of Britain Launch 2012
This year’s Tour of Britain was launched last Thursday in Guildford Surrey where the race will conclude on a cobbled High Street in September. Representing Team IG Sigma Sport were Team Manager Becky Frewing and riders Dan Craven and Simon Richardson.
The race, billed as the hardest yet starts in Ipswich on the 9th September and returns to Nottingham and Carlisle for the first time since 2005. Once again riders will face Caerphilly Mountain twice on the Welsh stage and a touch penultimate day in Devon should provide a final shake-up before the show down in Surrey.
Stage two looks to be an interesting one, starting at Nottingham Castle and heading out across the Peak District to finish alongside the Lion and Giraffe enclosure of Knowsley Safari Park. Let’s hope no-one is ready to be thrown to the lions by then!
Our sponsors IG Markets continue as partners of the race and sponsor the IG Markets Gold Jersey. Tim Hughes, Marketing Director of IG spoke at the launch ‘’We were delighted with the success of the Tour of Britain last year. The large crowds at the side of the road showed how cycling has captured the imagination in this country. This year’s Tour is huge opportunity as the first major sporting event in this country after the Olympics and Paralympics to capitalize on the nation’s enthusiasm for sport and cycling’’
Although no announcement was made to confirm British UCI Conti teams it was confirmed that Endura Racing have a place due to their success so far in Europe.
We await the much anticipated announcement in the forthcoming weeks.
