Beaumont Trophy returns for 2012
Tomorrow sees the return of the road racing and the Beaumont Trophy which takes place in Stamfordham, near Newcastle. This race hosted the National Road Race Championships in 2011 and forms part of the Virgin Money Cyclone.
On Friday night five of the IG Sigma Sport riders took part in the Leazes Park Criterium. The fast-paced tight circuit in the centre of Newcastle lived up to it’s name and produced casualties early on from many of the big teams. Simon Richardson and Peter Hawkins managed to hang on to finish in the group with Richard Lang from Rapha Condor Sharp taking the win.
The Beaumont Trophy on Sunday covers 108 miles including 3 times up the fearsome climb of the Ryals. Previous winners include Bradley Wiggins, Chris Newton and Malcolm Elliott.
The last couple of months have seen all the British teams deep in crit season so Sunday’s Premier Calendar is a welcome return for some.
Lining up for IG Sigma Sport will be: Wouter Sybrandy, Steve Lampier, Tom Last, Peter Hawkins, Simon Gaywood, Simon Richardson and Dan Craven who has recently returned from a training camp in the states in preparation for the Olympic Road Race.
